Committees

You don’t need to be a TMAPS member to join! Any planning student can get involved. It’s a great way to make an impact, build connections, and contribute to student life.

Committees are the heart of how TMAPS gets things done. Each one focuses on a specific area, whether it’s planning events, improving academics, or fostering community. They give students like you the chance to dive deeper into projects, develop leadership skills, and shape the direction of TMAPS. Joining a committee is a great way to get involved, make an impact, and work closely with other passionate planning students.

The Events Committee is responsible for planning and executing engaging initiatives that bring the planning student community together. The biggest project of the year is the TMU x WU Conference, a collaborative, student-led planning conference held annually in partnership with Waterloo’s planning school. The committee plays a key role in organizing logistics, outreach, and programming. This is a unique opportunity to build connections with future planners from across Ontario and showcase our school’s strengths.

The Communications Committee is the voice of TMAPS, making sure planning students stay informed, engaged, and connected. This committee manages all outward-facing communication, graphics, and announcements. The biggest project is running TMAPS’ social media platforms and creating clear, accessible student information materials, from event promos to guides on navigating the planning program. Whether it’s sharing opportunities, spotlighting student work, or making sure everyone knows what’s happening, the Communications Committee keeps the conversation going.

The Operations Committee ensures that TMAPS runs smoothly, fairly, and transparently. This committee is focused on upholding democratic processes, supporting good governance, and keeping our documents and decisions accessible to all planning students. Their biggest project is organizing the Annual General Meeting (AGM) a key event where students can propose changes, ask questions, and vote on the future direction of TMAPS. The Operations Committee works behind the scenes to make sure everything we do aligns with our constitution and values.

The Merch Committee brings school spirit to life through creative and memorable planning-themed swag. This team is responsible for designing and producing TMAPS merchandise that students can be proud to wear and keep as a reminder of their year. Their biggest project is the annual merch drop, a major release featuring signature items like hoodies, shirts, and tote bags. Alongside this, the committee also works on smaller projects throughout the year, including custom items like pens, mugs, flyers, and more. It’s all about celebrating our program and giving students something tangible to connect with.
